Genaro Ibañez, engraver, painter, and writer, was born in La Paz, Bolivia in 1903. He studied at la Academia de San Fernando, as well as the Escuela de Artes Gráficas, in Madrid, Spain. He returned to Bolivia in 1930 and by 1948 he was a professor and later director of graphic arts at the Escuela de Bellas Artes of La Paz.
Ibañez specialized in engraving, woodengraving, watercolor, and oil on canvas. He published various albums of woodengravings of scenes of La Paz. In the United States his work is represented in the collections of the Davis Museum at Wellesley College, the Detroit Institute of Arts, Georgetown University Library Art Collection, and Sweet Briar College.
Genaro Ibañez died in 1983.
