Lewis Daniel Johnson was born in New York, NY on August 14, 1866. He studied art in France as a young man. After returning to the United States he taveled as a portraitist with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. By 1925 he had settled in Pasdena, California, where he began working as a illustrator and charicaturist for the Pasadena Star News.
