Vivian Mayers, painter, printmaker, and sculptor, was an American artist who studied and worked in Chicago, Illinois and was married to Leo Mayers. Vivian Mayers’ handmade holiday cards are in the Kathleen Blackshear and Ethel Spears papers in the repository of the Archives of American Art as are her personal letters. From the design of the holiday cards one learns that Vivian and Leo’s sons were named Dick and Bob. Information gleaned from reading Mayers’ letters to Blackshear and Spears include that she was living at 928 S. 22nd Avenue in Bellwood, Illinois in the early 1960s and that she had turned to lapidary and was creating sculpture from stone. She also had a show at Chicago Teachers College North during this period.
