Painter, glass sculptor, and writer Bengt Orup was born in 1916 in Lendesberg, Sweden. He moved to Helsingborg in 1946 and lived there until his death in 1996. Orup trained from 1933 – 38 with Otto Skold’s painting school in Stockholm, and went on to Magnifico Chaumier and Colarossi in Paris.
With his innovative styles and techniques, he is often considered one of the Modernism pioneers of Sweden, in both works on canvas and in glass sculpting, and was a leading artist for Johansfords from 1952 to 1973. His career as a glass artist reached its zenith when he was invited to be guest lecturer at the Royal College of Art in London.
