Printmaker, painter, and photographer Caroline Speare Rohland was born in Boston, MA on April 20, 1885. She studied at the Boston Museum School, ASL of NYC, and with Andrew Dasburg. For a time Rohland lived and worked at the artist colonies in Woodstock, NY, where she met her future husband, artist Paul Rohland. She had homes in New York and Sierra Madre, CA until 1953.
