Biography

Jesus Chavez Romero was born in Mexico City on June 16, 1950. He studied art at the National School of Painting, Scultpture and Printmaking (L'Esmaralda) and the National Institute of Fine Arts, both in Mexico City. Between 1976 and 77 he taught art at the University of Puebla, Puebla, Mexio and from 1977-79 functioned as the Director of Fine Arts at the Regional Instutute of Fine Arts in Orizaba, Veracruz, Mexico. Between 1979 and 81 he was Co-ordinator of Children's Art at the Casa De la Culture in Leon Guanajuato. During his time in Mexico he worked as a member of "Collective Art in Mexico", Mexico City, a group of artists which painted and restored murals throughout Mexico City.

Between 1981 and 1986 Jesus worked as a printing instructor at Kala Institute of Printmaking in Berkeley, California and, during the same period worked as a Master Printer at the Ernest De Soto Workshop in San Francisco. Between 1986 and 1988 he helped found Polygon Artworks Group, Inc in Oakland, California where he functioned as Art Director and Master Printer. In 1988 he went to work as a printer at Trillium Press in San Francisco. He exhibited his work throughout the world in the mid 1980s.

Jesus Romero moved to San Antonio, Texas where he died on January 22, 2008.
