Henry Bischoff, painter, printmaker and illustrator, was born in Lausanne, Switzerland ion 16 June 1882. He was the son of Swiss landscape painter Théophile Bischoff.
Henry Bischoff became a teacher at the l’École Cantonale d'art Appliqué in Lausanne. As a painter, he focused on landscape and still life. His woodengravings illustrated the first French edition of Les Jeunes Visiteurs by Daisy Ashford published in 1927. He also illustrated Jacques Cazotte’s Le Diable amoureux, Adolphe: précédé due Cahier rouge by Benjamin Constant, and Chant de notre Rhône by D.F. Ramuz for which he created the frontispiece.
Bischoff was commissioned to paint the panels in the Baroque dining room of Club zur Geduld in Winterthur, Switzerland. The club was opened in 1922 by Oskar Reinhart, a wealthy Swiss magnate and patron of the artists.
Bischoff exhibited in the Salon d’Automne in 1927 and 1928. The exhibition Henry Bischoff was mounted at the Musée de l'Elysée in the city of Lausanne from 27 May to 1 August 1982. An illustrated catalog accompanied the exhibition in which 134 engravings and drawings were analyzed.
Henry Bischoff died in Lausanne on 7 July 1951.
