George J.Shuey, painter and printmaker, was born in San Francisco, California on February 27, 1947. He studied at the San Francisco Academy of Art between 1974 and 1976, and then continued his art studies at the San Francisco Art Institute earning his BFA degree in 1978 and his MFA in 1980. As a printmaker Shuey has explored the mediums of both mezzotint and monoprint.

Shuey has an extensive exhibition history and as a member of the California Society of Printmakers his work was included in numerous membership exhibitions. His mezzotints were included in the exhibition, New Traditions Contemporary Mezzotints in 1994 at the Heuser Art Center Gallery at Bradley University, Peoria; and his mezzotint, False Prophet III, is illustrated in The Mezzotint: History and Technique by Carol Wax.

Shuey's work is represented in the collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts; Comopinas Contemporary Art Museum, San Paulo; and the Civic Fine Art Center, Sioux Falls.
