Gerhard Blom, painter, was born to Bærendt Valdemar Blom and Nina Josephine Blom on 21 February 1866 in Helsingør, Denmark. He studied at l'Académie des Beaux-Arts in Copenhagen between 1885 and 1887 and then studied at the Artists' Studies School in Copenhagen under Kristian Zahrtmann between 1888 and 1892.
Blom debuted as an artist in 1892 with his painting Aprés-midi en éte. His work was included in the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893, and was shown in Munich in 1904 and Paris in 1906. His paintings focused on genre scenes, landscapes, animals, and people but he also painted sets for the Det Ny Teater (The New Theatre) in Copenhagen which opened in 1908.
Blom married fellow painter Gerda Strøm (a younger and more interesting painter) in 1921, but he died on 16 September 1930 in Birkerød, Denmark.
