Printmaker, painter, and mixed media artist Steven Sorman was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 14, 1948. He earned his BA in Fine Arts at the University of Minnesota (1971). He was awarded the Bush Foundation Artist's Fellowship in 1979; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Merit World Print III award, 1980; te Rockefeller Foundation American Center Artist-in-Residence, 1980 and again in 1982 (travel to Paris); and the 2nd Bhrat Bhavan International Biennial of Prints Merit Award, 1991. Sorman studied at the Tamarind Institute in New Mexico in the early 1980s and '90s. 

Sorman's work is included in the collection of the Stedkijk Museum, Amsterdam; the Museum of Modern Art, NY; the Metroplitan Museum of Art, NY; the Whitney Museum, NY; the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois; and the Walker Art Center, Minnesota, among others. Commissions include the Springhill Foundation; Prudential Insurance; IBM: Honeywell; and Hyatt Regency Hotels. 

He currently lives and works in Red Wing, Minnesota.
