Painter, printmaker, and muralist Ramon Sosamontes was born in Chilpancingo, Guerrero, Mexico, on August 31, 1911. He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plasticas, later working with the Taller de Grafica Popular. He was a member of the League of Revolutionary Writers and Artists along with Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
During Jose Vasconcelos' time as director of the National Library of Mexico and president of the Mexican Institute of Hispanic Culture, Sosamontes participated in the cultural missions encouraged by Vasconcelos, painting murals in rural primary schools throughout Mexico. He also taught printmaing in the Plastic Arts schools of Chilpancingo, the Rural Normal School, Hildago, and for the National School of Teachers.
In 1991, two years before his death, the TGP celebrated Sosamontes' long membership with the workshop and held an exhibition of his works in Mexico City. He died in May 2, 1993.
