Painter and printmaker Uwe Nickel was born July 3, 1942 in Sopot, Eastern Pomerania, Poland. His training included graphic, design and painting. His artistic work mainly includes numerous poster, book and graphic designs as well as numerous murals on public buildings. At the invitation of the Goethe Institute, Nickel was involved in exhibitions and workshops in many countries. He's participated in international biennials in Poland, Switzerland, Italy and the USA.
Nickel has exhibited in San Francisco, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Hanover and Wiesbaden, and is included in a permanent exhibition in the Atelier-Galerie Haus Busch, Hagen. He was awarded the Karl Ernst Osthaus Prize from the city of Hagen.
Nickel continues to work as an artist and teacher at his atelier in Hagen, offering numerous art workshops with students as well as numerous art workshops with adult education centers. A recent show titled "Lebensbuhne" honored his work as a muralist in the city of Iserlohn, in April of 2019.
