Hope Hazard Voorhees was born in Coldwater, Michigan on January 28, 1891. She studied in Detroit at Adrian College, the Detroit School of Design and the Roerich Institute. She moved to Provincetown, Massachusetts where she studied with Blanch Lazzell and painter Fritz Pfeiffer (who studied with Robert Henri and William Merritt Chase).
Voorhees taught art at the Grosse Point Country Day School in Michigan between 1920 and 1942 and, after marrying her old instructor Fritz Pfeiffer, from 1943 to 1949 at the Elmwood Franklin School in Buffalo, New York.
She was a member of the Provincetown Art Association and exhibited her work nationally throughout the 1930’s and 40’s. Hope H. Voorhees Pfeiffer died in Youngstown, Ohio in October of 1972.
