Despite a prolific output, little is found on the life and education of Hedwig Oehring (German: Öhring). She was associated with the Piloty School and the Defregger Circle, known for their genre art, and was a member of the Munich Artists' Cooperative and the Reich Association of Visual Artists. She exhibited with the Saxon Art Association in 1880 and 1882. In the latter, her series of nine portraits, shown collectively as "Bavarian folk types," was met with critical acclaim and she continued to focus on portraits thereafter. Her work can be found in the Altenational Gallery, Berlin. She was based in Munich.
