Printmaker In-Hwa Lee (or, Lee In-hwa) was born in Korea in 1948. He earned his Bachelor's of Fine Arts at Osaka University of Arts, Japan, and her Master's Degree in Painting at the Tama Art University Graduate School, Japan. He was first introduced to printmaking, which would become his primary medium, in the studio of Kim Gu-rim in 1973 where he learned copperplate etching.
From 1981 to 1989 he was a lecturer in the Department of Applied Arts at the College of Arts, Cheonju University, and a lecturer and Assistant Professor at the College of Fine Arts at Hongik University at the Department of Western Painting, Sangmyung Women's College.
Beginning in 1968 he exhibited throughout Japan and Korea in both solo and group gallery exhibitions, as well as biennials in Belaruse, Korea, and Japan. A pioneer of the Korean printmaking world, Lee won numerous awards, including a medal at the 5th Seoul International Printmaking Biennale in 1980, the Excellence Award in the Printmaking category at the Republic of Korea Art Exhibition, and the Special Award at the Belarus ‘96’ International Small Printmaking Biennale. He also actively participated in various domestic and international exhibitions, such as the Cagnes International Painting Festival and the Asian Contemporary Art Exhibition.
In-Hwa Lee died in Korea in 2018.
