Steven Brock is an American photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was born on the East Coast and his family moved to England in 1975 when he was a teenager. His father gave young Brock a camera and converted one of their bathrooms into a darkroom, sparking his interest in the medium. After college and travel, he returned to the U.S. in the early 1980s, first living in Vermont and then, in 1986, settling in San Francisco. Among the countries he has visited are Peru, India, Nepal, China, Italy, and more.
In 2007 Brock took a sabbatical in Rome with his family. While there, he learned bookbinding in the atelier of master bookbinder Omero Benvenuti. After his return to San Francisco he opened a studio for photography and bookbinding and has created his own handprinted photography books. He continues to live and work in the Bay Area.
