Vladislav Rohling was born in Prague, Czech Republic on May 23, 1878. He studied art first at K Lisky in Prague, Czechoslavakia and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague with Frantisek Zenisek. As an artist he primarily worked in printmaking: etching and woodcut in particular. Like many printmakers Rohling developed his own unique monogram, a "chop" based on his initials that was printed in the margin of the print, along with his pencil signature.
