Biography

Printmaker, painter, and jeweller Alfred John Bennett was born in London, England in 1861. Details of his early life and art education aren't readily available, but he likely studied at the Royal Academy where he exhibited in 1880 and 1916. After marrying Catherine Avery in 1889, they lived for a time with her family while he was employed as a jeweller. Once he had established a name as an artist, he quit and focused solely on art as a career.

Bennett exhibited regularly with the Royal Watercolour Society, and showed at the Pall Mall Picture Galleries and Walker's Gallery on New Bond Street. Additional participation included the Fine Art Society, New English Art Club, Grosvenor Gallery, and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. His work can be found in the collection of the Brighton Museum.

It should be noted that some biographers list his death in 1923, while others say 1929.
