Czech printmaker Jindřich Pileček was born on February 26, 1944 in Prague, Czech Republic. After studying ceramics at the Secondary Tchnical Ceramic School in Karlovy Vary, he continued with his artistic career in the studio of professor K. Svolinsky at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague.
Pileček’s prints, illustrations and ex libris received numerous national and international awards, including the Internationales Ex Libris Biennial in Sint Niklaas, Belgium (1979, 1981). His works are represented in public collections in the Czech Republic and abroad, including the National Gallery in Prague and Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia.
In addition his work was awarded the prestigious title "The Most Beautiful Book of the Year" for the graphic illustration of R. W. Emerson's book “On Nature”. His work received international recognition - he won the main prize for ex libris “Balloons in Belgium” in 1979. The artist was included in many domestic and foreign solo exhibitions.
Jindřich Pileček died in Prague on May 9, 2002.
