Herbert R. Steinbach, painter, printmaker and graphic artist, was born on 4 January 1931 to Herbert and Emily Steinbach in Blue Island, Illinois. After graduating from Joliet Township High School, Steinbach enlisted in the United States Army in 1949. He later earned both his BFA and his MFA degrees from Bradley University.
In 1953, Steinbach began working for Caterpillar as a graphic artist and taught design at Bradley University in the evenings. While working for Caterpillar, he was transferred to Genova, Switzerland for a number of years.
According to his online obituary, his work was exhibited at the Seattle Art Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy of Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, and the Albuquerque Museum.
Herbert R. Steinbach died on 18 May 2022 in Peoria, Illinois.
