Draughtsman and illustrator Thomas Dibdin Dighton was born in Westminster, England, on March 3, 1799. Differing accounts make a true accounting of his life challenging. His father may have been the noted portrait painter, caricaturist, and printmaker Robert Dighton, though Robert's records do not show a son named Thomas. Thomas Dighton likely studied at the Royal Academy of Arts, and is known to have exhibited there for the summer exhibitions of 1847 and 1848. He married Eliza Reeves sometime in the 1840s, and died in Devon, England, on July 31, 1882.
