Description
Following the innovative years before World War I when Pablo Picasso and George Braque introduced Cubist elements into graphic media, Cubist prints grew more elaborate in design and execution. Less studied than the prewar graphic works, the later period of the Cubist print began around 1915 and continued through the 1930s. "Place de la Concorde", a Cubist etching from 1931, is plate number 7 from "10 Eaux-Fortes pour Aurelia de Gérard de Nerval", Paris, Editions Fourcade, 1931 (Millet 55-64), this being M61. This impression is numbered 1 from the edition of 154. The colophon of the portfolio was signed by Marcoussis.
