In 1888 the French advertising agency of Charles Levy created a poster for the Huline Brothers (sic: Brother’s), William and James, English brothers who performed “dumbshows” in clown make-up and attire, as well as comedic “mirror” acts and musical performances. Though they began in England, they found their biggest success in France and toured in a variety of circuses and cabarets. The Charles Levy lithographic studio was known for its entertainment studios.
Christophe Adrien Regley de Keonigsegg began his artistic path after he had retired as a commander in the French Navy. He was particularly fond of recreating the famed posters of the Belle Epoch in miniature, often using single-hair brushes to achieve finer details within formats of under six inches on the long side.
