Description
Linda Connor captures the textures and mystery of the Long House cliff dwellings in Frijoles Canyon, Bandalier National Park, New Mexico. The openings in the soft "tuff" (rock made of compact volcanic ash) cliff face are entryways, reached by wooden ladders, that open onto naturally formed cavities throughout. These caves were further hollowed out by the former inhabitants, Puebloan tribespeople, to allow for dwelling spaces. These caves were inhabited from the 12th century through the 16th century.
