Post-war Southern California was a hotbed of Abstract and experimental art, music, and film, and Stussy, a tireless and prolific experimenter himself, dove headfirst into the din. He worked in several mediums, but lithography was a mainstay.
The lithographs he produced at this time reflected an excitement brought about by the anticipation of change, and wanting to be at the helm as it took place. Throughout his career his subjects all took on a feeling of upward movement and electric energy. In this piece, you can almost hear the sharp retort of Bebop horns and see the limbs of a Modern dancer at work.
