Description
A 1976 monochromatic interpretation of Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s color woodcut executed ca. 1972. Jean-Marie van Staveren uses aquatint and sparsely etched linework to create a soft, minimalist version of the German artist’s depiction of rain clouds releasing a deluge. Between 1972 and 1975 Hundertwasser created a portfolio of woodcuts titled Midori No Nimida, published by Gruena Janura AG. He worked with master Japanese carvers and printmakers to create five color woodcuts with foil embossing after his own selected paintings; “Two Clouds Raining Seven Colors” was done after his 1961 painting “Two Clouds With Feet Breeding Seven Colors.”
