In an interview in 2008, Michael Knigin stated "I seek to isolate objects from their mundane contexts and reorganize them, thereby granting them a new life. I select colors, textures and forms which complement the natural forms that I use. However, these artistic elements are present to reiterate the fact that I am involved in the creation of something new, not replicating nature's truths."
In this vividly hued lithograph, a giant, glazed vessel is superimposed over a hillside landscape, illuminated by the rose and violet shades of a fading sunset. From the vessel a black-and-white image of a biplane emerges, a startlingly bright object of weightlessness in a moody landscape. Each element is a stranger to its neighboring element, yet together they are pleasingly harmonious, draped in the surreal suggestions of a dreamscape.
