Edna Martin never pursued art as her main source of income or of interest, more preferring to travel and teach than to exhibit, but she continued to create works of art nearly until her death at age 100.
The adventurous artist spent summers traveling through the West, and the rest of the year running her family’s farm, pursuits which provided her with inspiration for the many landscapes and scenes of industry and travel that she was known for. Here, donkeys traverse a perilous edge that winds up the side of a mountain. This is likely the southwest, perhaps in the Grand Canyon.
