Description
An early, Expressionist linocut done a few years after Krasnow moved to Southern California from New York. Primarily a painter and sculptor, Krasnow's experiments with printmaking were brief, lasting only about two years, making them relatively rare. Yet in that time he helped to expand the printmaking sphere of California, with a style that reflected the burgeoning age of Los Angeles Modernism. In "Man and Woman" two stylized figures pose in front of a hilly Southern California landscape, the entire composition vibrating with texture and the rounded geometric shapes that heralded his movement toward the non-representational.
