Known as the Studio of the Imperial and Royal Court Photographers, the Dunky Brothers were active as studio photographers in late 19th early 20th centuries in Kolozsvár (Cluj) and Budapest, Hungary. Koloman (Kalman) Dunky was born in 1858 and died in 1935. His brother Ferenc (Franz) Dunky was born around 1860 and died in 1944.
Among their most noted subjects were Orientalist and mythological genre scenes, with painted backgrounds, elaborate sets, and costumes. These usually featured young women, often the daughters of aristocrats.
The brothers were also active as still photographers for the silent film period in Hungary and are credited with introducing still photography to the nascent film industry.
