Description
One of 5 prints created as a commission for Ambrose Vollard to accompany the text of Numancia by Cervantes. The project ended with Vollard's death. This apocalyptic image was to be to illustrate Numantia Act IV, Scene 4 where the starving Numancians decide to eat the Roman prisoners. This, like Combat, refers to the Spanish Civil War, which began in 1936.
