A timeline of John Chious’s art education and career is limited, however, his work shows his experience. A keen eye for design and understanding of the subtleties in intaglio printmaking create a pleasing balance to this abstract depiction of a city on a hill.
In “Retrospect #2” Chious employs a minimalist sensibility to the plate. He creates a line of jagged, rust-orange skyscrapers running through the center of the sheet, bordered by deep emerald grasses and a bright, mottled sky. Against the smooth, soft planes of the structures the land and sky are given life and movement with the application of brush-like texture.
