In the early 1960s Gabor Peterdi had the opportunity to fly with bush pilots over regions of the Arctic. This experience informed his work of the later 1960s and his interest in the landscape as flat areas with shimmering light. Curator Una Johnson commented in the catalogue raisonné 'Gabor Peterdi - Graphics 1934-1969':
"Now a more impersonal mood took form in his work. The forms are jagged and often harsh, the colors are cold blues, blacks and shadowy purples and are the artist's response to the bleak regions of the Arctic."
"Red Red Eclipse", printed in 5 colors, utilizes many of the intaglio techniques Peterdi had experimented with during his long career that included time at Atelier 17, both in Paris and in New York. This edition was published by Abe Lublin Inc., NY. A color illustration can be found in the Touchstone catalogue raisonne. This impression is a proof, outside of the edition, numbered 8. The published edition is 150 impressions.
