Description
At his coastal estate, Barking Rocks, in Gualala, California, Sheets built his studio, a museum, a stable for his racehorses, an aviary, and a plant room. He kept a variety of doves, budgerigars, pheasants, roosters and hens. Millard Sheets was one of the artists who used and taught screenprinting after the WPA. This is a large screenprint for the time, depicting multicolored pigeons on a dead tree branch, startled by something and prepared to take flight.
