The ten color etchings of 'La Genèse' or 'Genesis' were executed during the time of Dickson's pregnancy in 1964-65. The symbolism of each image evolved in the sequence in which they finally appeared in the portfolio, beginning with 'L'Origine' (In the Beginning) and concluding with 'Le Septième Jour' (The Seventh Day).
As a result of Dickson's "Prix des Jeunes Artistes" award for engraving at the 1963 Biennale de Paris, the "Genesis Suite" was created for the Prizewinners Salon at the Biennale de Paris for 1965 and was exhibited there.
South African born Canadian citizen Jennifer Joan Dickson worked with Stanley William Hayter at the experimental printmaking collective Atelier 17 in Paris where simultaneous color printing, also sometimes called "viscosity printing" was developed. Her work has been included in over 400 international exhibitions.
