Description
Munich born German Jewish artist Hermann Lismann taught at the Kulturband Jewish art studio in Frankfurt in the early 30's. Lisman fled to France in 1933 where he had been interned, escaped, and was recaptured and deported to Chelm. In 1943 he was sent to the Majdanek death camp where he was put to death. Lismann published a portfolio of 14 woodcuts to illustrate Gustave Flaubert's "Die Versuchung des Heiligen Antonius. This woodcut was handprinted by the artist
