Albert Urban is able to translate the application of paint onto the canvas into the layering of screenprinting inks on a sheet of paper with ease, owing perhaps to the abandon with which he uses the two mediums. There is no suggestion of hesitance in the composition of “Animal,” or of the ways in which the artist must act with careful precision in order to maintain the feel of immediacy in printmaking. We see instead an almost jarring confidence in Urban’s abstract depiction of the complex beauty of transition - in this case, from life into death.
