Description
An early example of a Algraph, a lithograph printed from a prepared aluminium plate rather than the usual lithographic stone, or zinc. This planographic process, developed by Christian Scholz of Mainz, Germany, was patented under the name Algraphy in 1897.Experiments in the new medium were described as 'algraphs'.
As with the term 'zincograph', lithography using a zinc plate, the word algraph soon became obsolete, prints from stone, zinc, and aluminium all now being encompassed in the general term 'lithograph'.
