Description
William Morgan began working in wood engraving but while in Italy on a Prix de Rome in 1924 he began engraving in copper. He produced 35 works between 1926 and 32, of which only 23 are known. This is a fine example of that work. Using the burr of the drypoint medium allowed Morgan to get the intense blacks that he was able to acheive in woodengraving but allowed him to work the image more like a drawing.
