An image from the "John Donne Series" of thirteen lithographs, five etchings and at least seven related drawings.
"...A Winter-Seeming Summers Night" was done by Wayne in June of 1957 as part of the "John Donne Series." It was an homage to Donne's poem "Love's Alchemy" passage: "So, lovers dreame a rich and long delight / But get a winter-seeming summers night."
Until the Donne series Wayne had worked with Los Angeles printer Lynton Kistler, who was having trouble printing the washes she was using. Wayne found the printer for this series in Paris. She had contacted the artist Mario Avati to get the name of his printer and was introduced to Marcel Durassier by Avati.
After the experience of working with printers who were not artists she went on to found Tamarind Lithography Workshop in Los Angeles as a partial solution for the problem.
