This large drawing was likely intended as a Red Cross poster proposal as World War I raged on. It does not appear that the poster was ever realized. An etching by Hyde of the same subject was printed in 1918 (Hyde cat. no. 135), perhaps sold to raise funds for the relief organization. The etching would be one of her last works before her death in 1919. This was drawn on an acidic paper which has been lightly mounted to a sheet of acid-free mat board.
