Description
Further annotations on Cora Boone's watercolor copy of the oil painting "Sunset" by artist Joseph Mallord William Turner (British: 1775 - 1851) are written on the verso in pencil: 'Made on the back of my sketch block in the "Whistler Gallery" in the British Museum. / I had a student card to sketch in the gallery (signed by the King). / Later: I have lost it (the card) CB'. Another faint annotation reads: 'Sunset at Sea-Turner-Tate'. The oil painting she is referring to was made by Turner between 1830 and 1850, and is currently hung in the Tate Museum (cat. no. 525). The King she is referring to is likely King George V, grandfather of Queen Elizabeth II.
