Arnold Belkin was born on December 9, 1930 in Canada.
He was credited for continuing the Mexican muralism tradition at a time when many Mexican painters were moving away from it. He was born and raised in Canada, but he was never influenced by Canadian art. He was instead influenced and intrigued by the work of Diego Rivera, and at the age of 18 he moved to Mexico.
Belkin produced 28 major public murals, with about ninety individual exhibitions and over fifty collective ones in Mexico and abroad. He also designed sets and costumes for many Mexican stage productions.
