Description
This color aquatint by Charles Maurin of a young woman cuddling her cat was done during the French Color Revolution that took place during the last decade of the nineteenth century. It is pencil number "7" but the total edition is not known. Maurin did much experimenting with color etching at the same time Mary Cassat was doing her remarkable color aquatints. Maurin invented a hybrid method of color printmaking which he patented. It combined both lithography and monotype and use a method of spraying the color that was printed with the pressure of an etching press. He reverted to color etching later in the 1890s. This impression was originally purchased from the Gerhard Wurzer Gallery in Houston, Texas.
