Description
From an albumen of photographic prints of Nikko, Japan. Photographed and hand-colored by Kusakabe, they were originally compiled in an accordian style with laquered, decorated covers, and sold to Western tourists as a souvenir of their travels.
The first image is of the Kyomizu Temple in Kyoto, one of the most frequented in the city. Pictured is the Main Hall entrance as seen from a high vantage point, the building flanked by a variety of trees.
The second image is of the town of Arima Onsen, which is in fact within the boundaries of Kobe but it somewhat secluded and known for its hot springs.
