"Travels and Jest IV-I" was included by Jane M. Farmer in a Smithsonian InstitutionTraveling Exhibition Service (SITES), "New American Monotypes" between 1978 and 1980. It is illustrated in black and white as entry number 8 in the catalogue on page 16. It was done in August of 1977 and was lent to the exhibition by Smith Anderson Gallery, Palo Alto, CA.
Boyle is quoted on page 16: "I am attracted to the monotype process because of the directness and the ability to work through visual ideas in a reasonable period of time. The range of possibilities, of accident and working with the ghost image, allowing for a greater sense of involvement. Finally, the monotypes give me the chance to explore ideas that probably will find their way into my paintings."
Keith Boyle taught in the art department at Stanford University in Palo Alto,California with Nathan Oliveira and Frank Lobdell.
