This rare etching by printmaker and Whistler biographer Joseph Pennell views London from Parliament Hill, overlooking Hampstead Heath. The dome of St. Paul's Cathedral is seen at the horizon. Storm clouds swirl overhead.
Pennell left a thin film of ink when he wiped the plate before printing, which gives the image an atmospheric tone.
This impression was printed by Pennell on a very thin sheet of Japanese paper. The paper was collaged to a heavier sheet and the margins were trimmed right to the platemark. At he bottom left edge the paper was torn, possibly the reason for the collé. As a consequence the title drifts a bit but the image is strong and well printed.
