Manuel Salvator Carmona was born at Nava del Rey Spain in 1734. He became a pupil of the engravers Charles and Nicolas-Gabriel Dupuis in Paris. Charles Dupuis was noted for his engravings of the paintings of Versailles and the Palais-Royal. Carmona, who also engraved works of painters, died in Madrid in 1807.
Regarding this portrait the British Museum notes:"Portrait of probably one of Cornelis de Vos' children (Susanna?), seated in a baby chair and wearing a cap, playing with some sweets; after Cornelis de Vos but formerly attributed to Peter Paul Rubens."
The lettering in the lower margin reads: "Peint par Paul Rubens" and "Gravé par Salvador, Pension.re de S.M. Catholique, et Graveur du Roy de France, 1762" and "A Monseigneur le Marquis de Grimaldi, / ... / .... de S.M. très Chrétienne." and "Tiré du Cabinet de Monseigneur / de prince de Monaco" and "A Paris chez Buldet rue de Gesvre" and "Par son très humble et très / obéissant serviteur SALVADOR".
