Description
Les Amants (The Lovers) exemplifies Gail Singer's dexterity within the intaglio medium, using textures and automatic line to portray an image of vibrant energy emerging from a velvety darkness. Singer worked at Atelier 17 in 1955 after Stanley William Hayter had reopened the popular experimental studio in Paris following the war. Her work combined the techniques of etching, aquatint, open bite, and viscosity. She also worked in relief, printing the surface of her matrix be it a metal plate, wood block, or linoleum block.
