This crowing rooster by Finnish printmaker Esko Kaarakka was done while the artist was attending the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki, Finland where he studied printmaking. There is an impression of "Rooster" in the collection of the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts.
A powerful image that dominates the whole plate, this rooster or pehaps fighting cock, is crowing out a message to the world that he is a force to be reckoned with.
This etching is created using etched lines, crosshatching them to create a black background. This image is similar in its strength and composition to engravings that were being done at Atelier 17 by Sue Fuller and Mauricio Lasansky a decade earlier.
